5 Reasons You're Not Losing The Weight And What To Do About It!

So your trying to lose weight but your not getting the results you want? Your habits, even some of the "healthy" ones could be to blame.

5 Reasons You're Not Losing The Weight

1. Dieting

Dieting is not a sustainable way to lose weight and can be restrictive in nature.

While dieting can provide short term results, they more often then not set us up for failure, damage our metabolism, and cause us to gain the weight back (or more)

Permanent weight loss requires long term healthy habits, not quick fix diets that only help the problem in the short term.

2. Skipping Meals

Diet culture makes us believe that my eating way less we will lose way more weight, so maybe like me you skipped meals on purpose to restrict calories.

Consistently skipping meals will only damage your metabolism and confuse your body to the point that it will consistently gain fat, not burn it.

Skipping meals sends your blood sugar and hormones into panic mode. These imbalances only lead to weight gain and weight loss resistance.

3. Cardio Only

Ok, let me be more specific. Cardio exercise is better than being inactive. Cardio will help you burn off some extra calories, but cardio does not equal fat burning.

The biggest mistake I see women who want to lose weight doing is ONLY cardio. Don't get me wrong, cardio should definitely be included in your weekly workouts, but you should also include resistance training and high intensity interval training to the schedule.

Cardio does not build lean muscle. Lean muscle mass is what burns fat throughout the day. Extended cardio only can also contribute to chronic levels of cortisol. Because cardio is extended stress on the body. When cortisol is released in the body it stimulates the breakdown of protein into glucose.

With the abundance of glucose in your blood, your body ends up utilizing the glucose to fuel your cardio session, not your fat stores.

4. Unbalanced Meals

Your body relies on the food you eat as fuel for energy and nourishment for your cells. The three primary sources are fat, protein & carbohydrates.

The meals and snacks you eat should include a good balance of all three of these nutrients. Balancing the fat, protein and carbohydrates you eat ensures that stable blood sugar, healthy digestion and optimal hormone regulation.

Your metabolism will thank you and respond with proper functioning all day long.

5. Quantity vs Quality of Food

Our culture is so obsessed with calories, but calories are not the most important factor when it comes to the food you eat. The quality of your food is everything! If your only concerned with calories in your food, you may not even be considering the chemicals in your food.

Light, sugar free, low-fat, fat-free are all words we see plastered all over foods in the grocery store. If your only concerned with the quantity of calories, fats, carbs you are eating then these foods sound really appealing. Don't they?

These foods are all processed, made in a factory and are chemically enhanced to taste good, even addictive. When a food item says that it is fat-free, sugar free, etc, they most always are filled with something else (additives, chemicals) in place of the fat or sugar, so they still taste good.

By eliminating these fake processed foods, and focusing on the quality of food you are eating, you will not need to count calories.

The food you eat can either be the best medicine or the slowest form of poison to your body.

Do not fear! All 5 of these things are habits that can be adjusted. Simple shifts like focusing on quality of the food, balancing your meals, incorporating a variety of exercises , eating consistently throughout the day and not giving in to restrictive diets can help your body move from being a fat storing struggle or a fat burning machine!

Which one of these habits is the most surprising to you? Let me know in the comments below!
