One of the biggest mistakes made in most cleanse programs is not taking a holistic approach to the process. Read more about the 3 Biggest Cleanse Mistakes. Many cleanse and detox programs only focus on what not to eat. To successfully cleanse the body, it is important that we focus on the entire body and not just the nutritional aspects.
Self Care is a beautiful opportunity to take your heath & wellbeing into your own hands!
Making the time to take care of yourself is not selfish, but necessary in order for you to show up as the best possible version of YOU, for the world and community that you serve.
At the end of the day, we are the only ones who have control over how we feel. Self care lets us build a deeper connection with ourselves and sets the tone for how we build relationships, manage stress, overcome obstacles and experience life.
I would like to share some of my personal favorite self-care practices that will not only make you feel great, but will enhance your body's ability to cleanse & detoxify.
Yoga focuses on the overall physical and mental health, and aids in healing the body mind connection. Many yoga poses have wonderful detoxifying abilities as they open up the lungs, relax the diaphragm and intestines and promote purification through the liver, kidney and bowels.
Detoxifying Bath Soaks
Bath soaks with therapeutic organic ingredients such as sea salts, detoxifying herbs, seaweeds and essential oils have bee shown to aid in cleansing the body from the outside in. In addition, they allow the body to absorb vitamins and minerals from those ingredients including potassium, magnesium, calcium, zinc, sodium, iodine, bromide and sulfur. These nutrients help nourish your body instead of depriving it.
During a massage, lymphatic fluid is moved along and blood vessels dilate so cardiovascular circulation is improved and toxins are released from body tissues and fat. During a cleanse program, be sure to get a massage! Make it a point to book a massage at least once a month afterwards as well. Massage is a wonderful way to assist your body in cleansing and maintain a healthy body.
Detoxifying Body Scrubs
Using a scrub formulated with therapeutic organic ingredients, such as rejuvenating organic oils, sea salts, herbs, and essential oils help to cleanse the body, stimulate the lymphatic system and successfully rid the body of toxins. They are extremely beneficial for cellulite and healing skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis and eczema.
Saunas are a great way to reduce stress, cleanse your body and increase your overall wellbeing. Skin is the bodys largest organ so sweating is the bodys own technique for removing toxins. Try a 10 minute session after your next workout!
Practice Conscious Breathing
Take a slow deep breathe in filling up your lungs and your belly. Hold the breathe for a few seconds and then slowly, with control, exhale all of the air out of your lungs. Repeat this for at least 5 breathe cycles. Not only does this technique help lower stress and anxiety, but it also slows down your nervous system, cleanses the body and boosts heart health.
Making it a habit to detox from our electronics for short periods everyday will not only give the mind a chance to slow down, but it can also gives us the opportunity to look up and enjoy the world around us. Start with a 20 minute break from staring at the laptop, checking the phone, scrolling through social media. Ideally work your way up to 1 hour per day of no electronics.
Electronics emit an electromagnetic frequency that could be harmful to the body. Constant use of electronics is also shown to impact body posture (rounding of the spine, neck and shoulders) and inflammation in the tendons of the hand, back, neck.
